Woman #Police Constable Beaten to Death for #Dowry

Renu Kumar, a woman constable, was beaten to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry in Khatauli town.

She got married to Kapil Kumar, a computer engineer, in 2014. Renu was posted at Khatauli police station, was admitted to Anand Hospital in Meerut by her in-laws where she died yesterday.

3 #Dowry #Murders in 3 Days in the Small Town of Berhampur, Orissa

Priyanka, Jhili and Sukanti – three women murdered for dowry in three consecutive days in this small town of Orissa.

Jitendra Kumar Sahu of Padhal, about 45 km from here, had strangulated his wife Priyanka to death. The couple has a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter. Burupda under Jarada police limits reported a similar case the previous day. Bananali Behera killed his wife Jhili and the couple has a two-year-old daughter.The same day, police arrested Lalatendu Sahu of Hinjli after his wife Mamini lodged a complaint, accusing him of torturing her for dowry. They got married last year. On Wednesday, police arrested Subash Dakua of Panchabhuti village for allegedly throttling his wife Sukanti to death the previous day. Subash is a daily wage labourer, police added.

Was Policewoman Anamika a Victim of #Dowry Greed or #Vyapam State Corruption?

Police allege Sub-InspectorAnamika Kushwaha committed suicide by drowning and was a victim of dowry harassment.  They have arrested her husband and in-laws.  Anamika’s death was believed to have been connected with the mysterious deaths surrounding the investigation of one of the biggest corruption scandal in India involving bribes and corruption for medical entrance exams of Vyapam.  There are believed to be more than 50 mysterious deaths involved with the investigations.

While the police have denied any link to the Vyapam scam, Kushwaha’s death was earlier linked to the scam because she was selected through an examination conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) of Vyapam.

The 25-year-old, who was undergoing training at the police academy in Sagar, is said to have jumped into a lake, and  post-mortem report showed drowning as the cause of death.

Kushwaha was married to Ravi Sikarwar, an employee of a leading private bank posted in Jhansi. His father, Narottam Singh Sikarwar, a retired army personnel, was also arrested from Sagar. An offence under the dowry law was registered after Kushwaha’s father, a head constable posted in Morena, gave a statement to the police.

Strangled to Death for #Dowry Three Months After the Wedding

Three months after her wedding,  22-year-old woman was strangled to death for dowry by her husband and in-laws for dowry in Dhumaria village.

According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, the woman was being harassed by her in-laws for  Rs 2 lakh cash and a motor-cycle.

23 year-old Puja was beaten and choked to death for dowry in UP, India

23 year old Pooja was beaten and throttled to death by her husband and in-laws after which her body was hung from the ceiling by the accused to set up her death as a case of suicide. Pooja and her elder sister were married in the same family and both were physically and mentally tortured for dowry by their in-laws.

Another Woman Poisoned to Death for #Dowry

Imran administered poison to his wife Shaheen when she couldn’t give him the dowry he demanded of Rs 10 lakh          Shaheen went to her brother’s house where she fell on the door. She was rushed to a hospital, but died before she reached.   Before her death, Shaheen told her brother that Imran gave poison to her.

Pregnant and abused for dowry, she died of fall injuries

24-year-old Sophia, who was pregnant, died due to internal injuries after she was beaten and pushed to the ground by her husband who often abused her for dowry. She died of stomach injuries at Bowring Hospital.

Police #woman dies of poisoning after police ignore her #dowry harassment complaints

Even a police woman cannot get police protection against dowry abuse. 32 year old Archana Tomar had approached the police numerous times with complaints about dowry harassment by her husband. She later died of poisoning and is said to have committed suicide. However, as no suicide note was found, murder cannot be ruled out. The question is, will the police force that failed to protect her, be honest in its investigations and do her justice?
