Village Council Orders Cutting Off of a Rape Victim’s Nose

23 December 2014, Rajasthan

A village council (panchayat) in a Barmer village in Rajasthan ordered that the nose of an alleged Dalit rape victim be chopped off, reportedly at the behest of the rapist.

The victim on Monday met the district’s superintendent of police and sought police protection from the villagers and the rapist, who happens to be her father-in-law.

Woman paraded naked on donkey

A 45-year-old woman was stripped and paraded naked through the village on the order of the panchayat ( village council). She was accused of causing the death of man in the village. Women often are accused of witchcraft and persecuted, even killed.

Six-year-old girl brutally stabbed to death in Jaipur

A 6-yr-old girl was found brutally murdered with multiple stab wounds. It seems she may have been raped before she was killed. Over the last couple of years there’s seem to be a sudden increase in the killing of rape victims in India.

Police constable arrested for rape-murder of 8-year-old niece – The Times of India on Mobile

A police constable has been charged with raping and strangling to death his 8 year old niece. Later he pretended to help the family search for her and file an FIR (police complaint). He also had a history of sexually abusing children in the family, for which the family had beat him up, but lodged no police complaint. Families often choose to be secretive about routine sexual abuse and sexual violence within the family.

A high ranking woman corporate official of a Malaysian company was drugged and raped by a man at gunpoint on Thursday night. The man had been showing the woman few places in and around Jaipur to start up the company’s project. The accused has been identified as Puneet Jain, a management consultant in the city.

New Born Girl Found Killed in A Canal

Jaipur, Rajasthan, January 25, 2011

The police found the body of a newborn girl, killed and dumped in a canal near Naugama, a small village in Banswara district.  Earlier families used to practice female foeticide, but after the government announced monetary incentives for couples to have girls,  families now go to the hospitals with an eye on the money offered.  However, soon after leaving the hospital, the newborn girls “disappear”. In some cases they are killed while in others the families just throw them away. Read the report here
