Six men broke into the house of a 15-year-old when she was home alone, and attempted to rape her. As she fought them and raised an alarm, they set her on fire and fled, bolting the door from outside. The girl is in a critical condition in hospital.

A man from the neighborhood who had been sexually harassing a 17 year old girl, broke into her house and attempted to rape her. When she tried to scream for help he set her on fire and escaped. She later succumbed to 90% burns.

35-year-old Tabassum died after she was tied to a tree and set on fire by her husband and in-laws because they wanted more dowry. She had been married for 7 years and had two children. Demands for more and more dowry wealth continues for years after marriage, and women are often tortured and killed when they stop giving in to those demands.

A 16-year-old Dalit girl was doused with kerosene and set on fire by her neighbors at Sayla village in Surendranagar district of Gujarat. It is reported that the neighbors had complained about an overflowing sewage line they wanted the girl’s family to repair, and had threatened to kill them if they did not repair the pipe.

A 21-year-old woman, who had been tortured for dowry for three years by her husband and mother-in-law, was assaulted, doused with kerosene and set ablaze by her husband and mother-in-law, and later died of her injuries at a hospital on Wednesday night.
