#Dalit woman labelled “#Witch” and Gang #Raped in Public

A woman belonging to the dalit community was gang-raped in public at a village in Janjgir-Champa district on Sunday night. The victim was dragged out of her home by a group of 18-20 people, including women, before being beaten up and gang-raped by the men. She was tagged as ‘tonhi’— “witch” who the villagers accused of practicing witchcraft.
The victim fell unconscious and was taken home. The next day when she went to police station, accompanied by her relatives, the police refused to register a case. A case was registered on Wednesday after media coverage and intervention of the superintendent of police.
